Well, There's the critters, Melissa and Jessica. They look so much alike its insane, and my wife says they look just like me, although I think they're MUCH better looking than that. Jess and Mel. Mel and Jess. MAN it's weird having kids!
Well, today Jeanne and I got up and went to church. I hadn't been to my home church in some time, and was surprised to find that it was nearly empty. Man, things have changed. Then Jason, Jack's brother, came up and told me that there was a church retreat this weekend and a lot of people were up there. There were only three people in the choir, Jason and two ladies. I almost went up there too, to make it an even quartet, but that would have meant leaving Jeanne alone with Melissa and Jessica in the pew. That wouldn't be fair.
During the Children's sermon, all the kids go down to the front and sit on the stage as the preacher gives a little sermon to the kids, then they all go to the nursery as the service goes on for the adults. Melissa saw the kids going down and looked at me as if she wanted to see what was going on. I asked her if she wanted to go to the front, and she nodded yes. Knowing sahe'd wander off if sent alone, I walked with her down the aisle toward the front. I stopped short and sat on the second row. Melissa kept going up on the stage with the rest of the kids, then began to turn back to me when she realized I wasn't with her. Reverend Lovelace had already started speaking to the congregation when I motioned for Melissa to go sit down with the other kids. I was pointing to her right.
At this point, the reverend is talking away, and Melissa has her back to him, standing on the edge of the stage, looking out at all the people who are looking right at her. Some of them snickered and giggled, which is common for children's time. Melissa saw me pointing beside her, looked right, took two side steps to the right, and asked aloud,"Go HERE, Daddy?"
She never did sit and pay attention, and she was SO cute, despite her wandering around the stage. Then again, this was only her first time going up for the children's sermon. Maybe next week she'll get the hang of it.
After church, we went back to my parents' house for lunch, played with the kids a while, read the Sunday paper, and decided to see a movie. Since we watched the Academy Awards and both love Kevin Spacey, we watched American Beauty. I loved it. It was weird, funny, and somewhat disturbing all at once. Good stuff.
Before the movie we ran in the mall to see if I couldn't find a cigarette lighter adapter for my laptop. We did. We also got a book I've been looking for, The Captains by W.E.B. Griffin from the Brotherhood of War series. I read the first book, The Leutenants a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm hooked and will no doubt read the entire eight book series. Its one of those book series' that isn't only great reading, but looks good on your shelf after you've finished reading them.
Well, we went home after the movie and I loaded up the car and we left. It's about a three hour drive home, er, back to Nashville, and I had my laptop on the whole time while Jeanne drove. I must admit, if I'm gonna ride, I might as well ride in style. As we approached Nashville, Jeanne started to get sleepy. She had to shake her head and keep talking to me to stay awake. Fortunately we made it to the apartment, and got into bed around one in the morning. It was a fun weekend, and it ended all too quickly.
